As we approach the upcoming presidential debate and election cycle, we understand that this period can bring heightened emotions and stress for many. We want to take a moment to acknowledge the impact this may have on your mental and emotional well-being.

For many, these events can be a source of stress or anxiety, regardless of one’s political affiliation or perspective.

Election-related stress is common, and it’s natural to feel overwhelmed at times by the discussions, news, and overall environment surrounding these events. Our priority is your mental health, and we’re here to support you throughout this season.

Here are some strategies that our behavioral health specialist, Brandon Simpson, recommends helping manage any anxiety you may experience during this time:

  1. Limit Media Exposure

It’s important to stay informed, but excessive consumption of election news can increase stress levels. Consider setting boundaries for how often you check the news or social media.

  2. Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness exercises, such as deep breathing or meditation, can help you stay grounded. Taking a few moments to pause and refocus when you feel overwhelmed can make a significant difference.

  3. Prioritize Self-Care

Engage in activities that bring you peace and joy. Whether it’s spending time with loved ones, reading, or simply taking a walk, setting aside time for self-care is vital.

  4. Focus on What You Can Control

Remember that while the election can feel overwhelming, you can control how much you engage with it. It’s okay to step back from conversations or situations that increase your stress.

  5. Seek Support When Needed

If the anxiety becomes difficult to manage, don’t hesitate to reach out. We are here to provide guidance and support whenever you need it.
