  • Dr. Trang is joining the organization as a physician to provide clinical care and perform clinical research. He was born in Vietnam and immigrated to central Massachusetts at a young age. After finishing high school, he moved to the capital district of New York to combined-degree program where he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Economics at Union College, a Master of Healthcare Administration at Union Graduate College, and a Doctor of Medicine at Albany Medical College. Dr. Trang decided to return back to Worcester, Massachusetts to the same FQHC where he and his family first visited when they came to the United States to complete his residency training in family medicine and community health. Throughout his stages of training, Dr. Trang had the privilege of working with underserved patients of all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. The most notable and gratifying patient encounters he’s had helped direct his passions towards a career where he can care for the most marginalized groups. This propelled Dr. Trang to complete fellowship training in HIV medicine in Los Angeles County from 2020-2022 and ultimately, to his new role here at MHF. Naturally as a family medicine doctor, his interests have mostly revolved around disease prevention and how the social determinants of health affects our delivery of care. These interests are all reflected in Dr. Trang’s prior work: studying how payment structures affect the outcomes of tuberculosis care in Vietnam; how geographic regions affect the blood pressure and BMI of Buddhist monks in Nepal; and more recently, how to improve the use of PrEP by simplifying and streamlining the process among primary care doctors.
